Patrick Has a Plan

Patrick Nelson is a lifelong resident of Stillwater, NY, where he lives with his wife, Jennifer Natyzak, 6 chickens, and a border collie rescue named Goose. Patrick and Jennifer share a deep commitment to community service and volunteer together with the Stillwater United Church, the Stillwater Food Pantry, LifeWorks Community Action, Bikeatoga Bike Rescue, and Shelters of Saratoga. Patrick has served for 10 years on the Saratoga County Democratic Committee, where he currently holds the position of Second Vice Chair. In 2020, he was the Democratic nominee for State Senate, and he is now serving his second four-year term on the Stillwater Village Board. He brings nearly a decade of experience in politics and government, including managing state legislative campaigns, working as a staffer in both the State Assembly and State Senate, and serving on a Democratic presidential campaign. A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) with a degree in Biochemistry and Biophysics, Patrick became a registered U.S. Patent Agent in 2022. He currently serves as a Senior Associate for Intellectual Property and Licensing at the SUNY Research Foundation, where he supports the Capital Region and New York State's technology and innovation ecosystem, helping advance new developments in healthcare, environmental conservation, and artificial intelligence.

  • Proven record of developing local infrastructure like installing electric vehicle charging stations in cooperation with the Town of Stillwater and the Albany Diocese

  • Has never taken contributions from corporations, corporate PACs, or lobbyists and supports banning corporate contributions in New York State and Local Elections

  • Has never voted to increase property taxes on constituents

  • Former state legislative staffer who understands how Albany works and can make it work for everyone

Fighting for Working Families

  • Addressing the rising cost of health care, child care, utilities, and property taxes that are squeezing middle-class families

  • Standing up to National Grid and NYSEG on high costs and fighting for a refund program for people and small businesses facing massive rate increases

  • Supporting the New York Health Act for universal single-payer coverage – eliminating premiums, deductibles, and copays

  • Has a plan to consolidate public employee health plan through the NY Empire Plan to reduce expenses for municipalities and school districts, therefore reducing property taxes

  • Pushing for truly universal childcare to ensure every family has access to affordable, high-quality care and early learning regardless of income

  • Has a plan for a public payroll provider for new and small businesses to reduce compliance costs

  • Has a plan to create an "Affordable Housing Communities" program to provide incentives to local governments to develop lower cost rental and home ownership options
